Teaching, research and transfer - regional and international
As a university of education, our strengths are research-based and practice-oriented studies, innovative teaching, excellent research on issues in the context of teaching and learning, active support of knowledge transfer to civil society, and tailored consulting for diverse stakeholders in the education sector. We have been certified as a family-friendly university since 2016.
The University of Education Weingarten is beautifully located in the south of Germany with a view of the Alps and close proximity to Lake Constance. In the baroque monastery complex on the Martinsberg, you will find a unique atmosphere for learning and research, short distances and direct contact.
Forward-looking teaching and tailored consulting
Our core competencies are the job-related education, training and continuing education of teachers and the qualification of students for education- and counseling-related professions. Since our founding in 1962, we are proud of a long tradition of offering academic bachelor's and master's degree programs for the teaching professions in elementary and lower secondary education. In doing so, the research results achieved are incorporated into the design of innovative teaching.
In other modern bachelor's and master's degree programs, we address current social issues. These are the bachelor's degree programs in Exercise and Nutrition Science, Elementary Education, Speech Therapy, Media and Education Management and Environmental Education. The master's programs in Literacy and General Education, Early Childhood Studies, Intercultural Education/Cultural Competence, Educational Science, Media and Education Management, and School Development are a continuation of these. Since 2006, we have been cooperating with the RWU University of Applied Sciences Ravensburg-Weingarten to also train teachers for vocational schools.
We place particular emphasis on providing good support for our students, from the first week of the semester to the integrated semester internship and the final thesis. Our goal is to enable you to study in a goal-oriented, family-friendly and successful manner.
In addition, we cultivate relationships with our graduates and others in pedagogical fields and offer them opportunities beyond their studies: in-service training courses based on the results of research and development projects in practice are offered by the Academy of Continuing Education (AWW). The focus here is on lifelong learning.
Educational research with regional and international aspects
Our researchers from various disciplines work together interdisciplinarily in four research centers and thus contribute to the regional, national and international discourse on education. Our research and teaching focuses on education for sustainable development (ESD), digital media and dealing with heterogeneity. As a University of Education, we have the right to award doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. Supporting young academics is important to us. The newly established Graduate School provides this support on the one hand by the research centers and on the other.

A transfer umbrella for networking in the region
Under the umbrella of the Institute for Educational Consulting (IfB), founded in 2018, we carry out development and consulting projects for and with the region. We want to contribute to the solution of growing challenges through the active assumption of responsibility and social engagement with society. This exchange takes place bi-directionally according to the principle of Community-Based Research (CBR), in which the research questions for projects are brought directly by civil society partners, while the results flow back directly into society in various forms.
We organize regional and national conferences and offer courses, internships and student projects such as service learning with and for partners from the region. In addition, we have a Steinbeis Transfer Center for collaboration with the business community.

Globally networked - regionally anchored
We participate in the worldwide process of internationalization and development in all areas of the university "teaching, continuing education, research, promotion of young scientists, technology and knowledge transfer". In this way, we make a sustainable contribution to international and intercultural understanding. We maintain numerous international partnerships with universities and schools within and outside Europe and enable students to gain experience abroad and teachers to engage in international exchange in research and teaching.
